Riven

handmade greeting card, collage art

Easier now.

The tight stranglehold of madness relents

to allow rivulets of clarity into a brain tingling

like a foot fallen asleep.

Circle dance, spiraling to a familiar stop:

How much damage to repair?

How much footing lost?

A pause in the wreckage

to take stock

before turning.

Like a centrifuge spinning

sediments of blood into sight,

Madness separates substance

from goss.

Not purified,

riven.

Your prose is beautiful, Sandy. I’ve read this several times, feeling the words with personal understanding.

And to you, my friend. Do you know how happy-making it is for me to see that tiny picture of Richard whenever you comment? It lifts me. It really does. Thank you for that.

Your writing is so potent, and hits so many “homes”, and your style is so uniquely your own. It’s such a delight to read.
